“I like the stars. It’s the illusion of permanence, I think. I mean, they’re always flaring up and caving in and going out. But from here, I can pretend…I can pretend that things last. I can pretend that lives last longer than moments. Gods come, and gods go. Mortals flicker and flash and fade. Worlds don’t last; and stars and galaxies are transient, fleeting things that twinkle like fireflies and vanish into cold and dust. But I can pretend…” —Neil Gaiman

Secret #4

I sometimes wish I was confident enough, had a prettier wardrobe and didn’t looked so awkward/not-pretty in photographs to take cool self-portraits.

What are your favorite French words? And what do they mean in English?

Unfortunately, since I barely use French anymore, I have lost/forgotten much of my vocabulary and the beautiful words that are part of it.
Here are some that comes to my mind:

  • papillon {butterfly}
  • hirondelle {swallow (bird)}
  • aurore {dawn}
  • éphémère {ephemeral}
  • soleil {sun}
  • nébuleuse {nebula}
  • délicatesse {delicacy}
  • florilège {anthology - especially of poetry}
  • émoustiller {to titillate}
  • épistolaire {epistolary}
  • pernicieux/euse {pernicious}
  • magie {magic}
  • rêve {dream}
  • mer {sea}

Here is a random fact: The longest word in the French language is anticonstitutionnellement {anti-constitutionally}

can you translate your quote: "we all have dreams in our heads, words in our mouths, stories on our skin, and ghosts in our hearts. We are little haunted houses, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming" in French?

oh, sure. but why?

” Nous avons tous des rêves dans nos têtes, des mots dans nos bouches, des histoires sur notre peau, et des fantômes dans nos coeurs. Nous some des petites maisons hantées, rêveuses, rêveuses, rêveuses”

NOTE: the literal translation for “dreaming” would probably be more “rêvant” or “en rêvant”, but I thought “rêveuses”, which is an adjective, not a verb, sounded better.

Any other French questions are welcomed. It’s good practice, I’m loosing my French for lack of using, to my mom’s great despair.
