boyfriend :)

I am trying to start using words like ‘partner’ and ‘significant other’ instead of boyfriend, mostly for 2 reasons:

1) because when I say ‘partner’, nobody can infer the gender until I actually use a pronoun. Which means nobody can infer on my sexual orientation either, until I decide to do so. (and even if the inferred to it, they would still be wrong, but that’s another point entirely)

2) Because people take ‘boyfriend’ less seriously. Like it’s more casual. Like a high school relationship or something. Well, for us that’s not the case, it’s very serious. As serious as if we were married, and I want people to understand that. To not dismiss it because I’m not using the word ‘husband’ (which by the way, even if we were married I wouldn’t be using. It feels way too weird, and doesn’t fit him at all)
